ADVENTURE EXPEDITIONIST
Juma Chebet

ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Juma Chebet is the founder and lead expeditionist of Massif Montane Expedition, an adventure company rooted in the mountains of eastern Uganda. Born and raised in Sipi, Kapchorwa District, on the slopes of Mount Elgon, Juma’s life has been shaped by the rugged landscapes, rich cultures, and natural beauty of the region.
Growing up in one of Uganda’s most prominent hiking and tourism areas, Juma developed an early passion for outdoor adventure and mountain exploration. From his teenage years, he immersed himself in trekking, navigation, and wilderness survival, gradually acquiring deep local knowledge and professional guiding skills. His upbringing within the Mount Elgon ecosystem provided him with a unique understanding of the terrain, climate, communities, and conservation challenges of the region.
With over a decade of hands-on experience in guiding, exploration, and expedition leadership, Juma has led numerous local and international travelers across Mount Elgon and other remote destinations. His expertise spans expedition planning, route development, logistics coordination, risk management, and cultural interpretation.
In 2019, driven by a vision to offer authentic, responsible, and well-organised adventure experiences, Juma founded Massif Montane Expedition. The company specialises in leading adventure groups, organising customised expeditions, preparing logistics, and sharing in-depth regional knowledge. Central to its mission is a strong commitment to environmental conservation, community engagement, and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
Today, Juma continues to lead expeditions with a focus on safety, professionalism, and meaningful exploration, connecting travelers to the mountains while preserving the landscapes and cultures that make them extraordinary.
